Beverly Hall denies knowledge of cheating

MAUI, Hawaii -- Beverly Hall had no idea cheating was going on in her schools, she told 11Alive's Karyn Greer in an interview Wednesday.

COMPLETE COVERAGE: Atlanta Public Schools CRCT Cheating Investigation

Greer met with Hall at a posh Maui resort where she and her husband have been on vacation for two weeks, 4,000 miles away, but still within earshot of the national scandal that has dominated headlines back home.

"I absolutely knew nothing about the cheating," Hall told Greer.

Hall panned most questions under the advice of her attorney, but the meeting constitutes the first time Hall answered any questions about the scandal that has embroiled her former school system.

More good news on the job front

ATLANTA -- Bad economic news has been like a broken record over the past few years, but there's more good news for the state of Georgia and for job seekers in Atlanta.

The state announced Wednesday that revenue figures for June are up 6.2 percent over last June. Revenue rose by $87.5 million. "We saw numbers that were above trend for 12 consecutive months in fiscal year 2011," said Gov. Nathan Deal.

And there is more good news on the job front from companies who recruit workers. Jobs News Atlanta expects the jobs available at a job fair in Atlanta on July 21, 2011 to double. "We are definitely seeing a surge of companies coming to us for increasing their staff," said Marsha Olivieri.

The news comes on the heels of two announcements in the past two weeks. Caterpillar Inc. announced they were adding 200 jobs and $120 million in capital improvements to their Spalding County plant.
