Local AT&T workers gather downtown, demand new contracts

ATLANTA -- Union workers with AT&T hit the picket line in downtown Atlanta, Saturday, demanding a new labor contract.

The "Communication Workers of America" descended on the AT&T headquarters on West Peachtree Street.

Man wanted for questioning in MARTA sex assault


ATLANTA – Police have released the sketch of a man wanted for questioning in connection with a rape that happened at a MARTA station.

According to police, the incident happened July 26 at the North Avenue MARTA station located at 713 W. Peachtree Street NW.

The victim, who was visiting from out of town, told police she fell asleep at the property, and woke up with a man on top of her assaulting her.

Fulton County BOC approves funding to improve efficiency of the elections process

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- At the Aug. 5 board meeting, the Fulton County Board of Commissioners (BOC) approved the purchase of an election/asset management system and Poll Worker on-line training software system recommended by the county’s Department of Registration and Elections. Both systems will align the department to continue resolving issues that arose during the general election and general election runoff of 2008 as well as the primary and general elections of 2012.

“The approval to implement these two systems should improve our department’s ability to conduct elections more efficiently,” states Rick Barron, Director of the Fulton County Department of Registration and Elections. “The 2016 Election Year is fast approaching and having these two systems in place will enable us to be better prepared for the expected increase in turn-out due to it being a Presidential Election year.”

Car crashes in front of Smith's Olde Bar

ATLANTA -- Police are looking for a driver who crashed into the front of Smith's Olde Bar just as it was closing early Sunday.

No one was hurt, but the car suffered extensive damage.

The bar itself wasn't damaged, except for a bench out front.

HERO operator seriously injured by alleged DUI driver

ATLANTA -- A HERO operator is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle on I-75 early Saturday morning.

An Atlanta Police Department spokesperson said HERO operator Moses King was setting out road flares following another accident on I-75 south of 17th Street when he was struck by a 2006 Mazda 3 operated by 25-year-old Lindsay Clark.

Clark also struck another vehicle after skidding into King.

King was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

Clark was taken into custody and is now facing traffic violations that include driving under the influence, reckless driving and serious injury by vehicle. She had her first court appearance Monday morning, where her bond was set at $77,500.

2 shot in Midtown Atlanta parking lot

ATLANTA -- Two people were shot in the parking lot of a Midtown Atlanta nightclub early Sunday.

The double shooting happened during a fight outside of Quad on Spring Street. Witnesses said a large fight broke out inside the club just before 3 a.m. As people were leaving the club, another fight broke out in the street.

One group said after they ran to the parking lot of the Varsity, they realized one man had been shot.

The victims -- one shot in the leg, another shot in the chest -- were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital.

Around the same time of the shooting, there was a carjacking in a parking lot across the street.

It's not yet known if those two incidents are connected.
