(WXIA) - A search for Georgia's outstanding senior volunteer has begun by a Home Instead, Inc. program, Salute to Senior Service.
The program, according to a spokeswoman for Home Instead Senior Care, seeks to honor contributions of adults who are at least 65 years old and commit at least 15 hours a week to volunteer service for their choice of causes.
During the time of February 1 through March 31, Home Instead, Inc. will take nominations for outstanding senior volunteers. The Georgia winner will be chosen from votes made online at Salute to Senior Service between April 15 - April 30.
The final winner will be determined after the votes are submitted by a panel of senior care experts, as reported by the spokeswoman.
Also at the end of the contest, the spokeswoman said Home Instead, Inc. will donate $500 to the Georgia winner's favorite nonprofit. They will donate $5,000 to that of the national winner.
Owner of the Home Instead Senior Care office in Atlanta, Irene Hardin said, "These silent heroes give selflessly, expecting nothing in return. And yet, their contributions often make a difference not only to the organizations they serve, but in changing how the public views growing older."
