Taylor Anderson movie to screen at Ga. Tech

ATLANTA -- A film about one of the victims of the deadly March 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan will be screened in Atlanta this week.

Live Your Dream: The Taylor Anderson Story will be shown Friday, Mar. 1 in the LeCraw Auditorium at Georgia Tech's Scheller College of Business.

The evening will begin with a reception at 5:30 p.m. The film is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. It will be followed by a panel discussion. Everything is free and open to the public.

Taylor Anderson was a 24-year-old teacher from Richmond, Va. She was the first American confirmed killed in the quake, which devastated several parts of Japan.

Atlanta Opera announces 2013-14 season

ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Opera has revealed its 2013-14 lineup.

The new season will begin with a staging of Giacomo Puccini's Tosca, the story of a strong-willed diva who battles police chief Scarpia for the life of Cavaradossi, the man she loves.

Tosca will be performed in early October. It will be sung in Italian with English translations projected above the stage.

The second show in the 2013-14 season is Faust, an operatic retelling of the legend of a scholar who sells his soul to the devil in exchange for a chance with the beautiful Marguerite. Charles-François Gounod's opera is considered a classic struggle between good and evil.

Faust will be sung in French with English supertitles. It will be staged in March 2014.

Fulton County Arts and Culture to begin classes

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- Registration is soon to open for the Fulton County Department of Arts and Culture's Spring 2013 class sessions. 

Four Arts Centers will offer classes in arts and culture studies, including dance, theatre, painting, drawing, pottery and others, according to Fulton County Government official Jolene Freeman. 

As Freeman reported, registration can be completed online or onsite, beginning February 19 and ending March 19. Classes begin March 19, and run for eight weeks. Youth and adults are welcome to attend.

Classes are being held at the Abernathy Arts Center, South Fulton Arts Center, Southwest Arts Center and the West End Performing Arts Center.
