The Children of the Fallen Economy, How you can help the Atlanta Children's Shelter | Community Spirit
Title (Max 100 Charaters)
In the wake of the country’s economic downward spiral, we wonder, how do we explain to those that don’t understand why their lives are shifted so rapidly and affected by the times? They say “choose wisely for your destiny waits”, but what about those who are afforded no choice? To explain to the little ones that have fallen on hard circumstances that life is unfair would be a disservice. So many children have been affected by the hardships the country has encountered that more and more philanthropies are struggling to provide for them.
The ability to give is just that, a gift. The ability to understand gratitude is fathomed into how much we take for granted and those that have the most should give the most. It’s not the hand you are dealt but the way you play your cards. However, an understanding of philanthropy starts young, teaching that we are not entitled to the world, rather entitled to help the world.
The young ones of the Atlanta Children’s Shelter are dealing with temporary setbacks that sometimes hinder their development in ways that make childhood more difficult than it is for most. A stage when the innocence that lies within is abruptly shattered by adult problems that are impossible for a kid to digest. Many potential givers are paralyzed by the feeling that they, one person, one family, one community, can do nothing, however this falsehood is not the case. The needs of the shelter are minute in the eyes of a working man or woman, but so large in the eyes of a child. It’s important to understand that small, impactful gifts can work in volume to change and maximize the possibilities of a child growing up feeling loved and cared for, and not feeling abandoned or resented.
The stories of the shelter are both compelling and familiar, the residents are both normal and traditional, and they’re merely in need of temporary support to re-gain their independence and stability. Thankfully, there’s something you can do. The Atlanta Children’s Shelter has set up a donation day every week for people to drop off much needed items. They are currently in need of Pullups size 4,5 and 6, and new seasonal clothing and sneakers for boys and girls sizes one month to 5T.
Deliveries can be made on Thursdays between 10am and 4pm. If you would like to do an online donation, visit: http://www.atlantachildrensshelter.com/donating.html
