Windsor Warriors team pp with Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team in Training

ATLANTA -- Introducing the Windsor Warriors, a team sponsored by Windsor Property Management to promote participation in charitable fundraisers and community events which strengthens and inspires a community. The Windsor Warriors have teamed up with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training (TNT) to prepare six Atlanta WindsorCommunity residents for the upcoming Publix Georgia Half Marathon on Sunday, March 17. The six members include Tamara Beard, Julia Wolfe, Meghan McDonnell, Michelle Williams, Reagan Wolfe and Sarah Eales. With professional coaches to guide their every step, the participants went through a four month training program while helping the organization raise much needed funds towards the fight against blood cancer.

Fulton residents encouraged to 'Walk Ga.'

ATLANTA -- Fulton County Cooperative Extension wants all residents to develop regular physical activity habits, get healthier and have fun while “walking across Georgia”.  Daily activities such as walking the dog, going for a jog and playing catch with the kids quickly add up to virtual miles that are used to “walk” across the state. 

“We invite all residents who made New Year’s resolutions to get fit and be healthier to join our initiative,” says Menia Chester, Director of Fulton County Cooperative Extension. “Although this event is called Walk Georgia, any form of activity can be logged to track mileage.  The primary goal is to get moving.”

Local artist, 11, pays tribute to Obama as country celebrates inauguration

Today, Barack Obama is sworn in as the nation’s 44th president. And throughout the country, citizens ready for a new administration as the country faces a continuing economic crisis, impassioned conversations and more.

In Atlanta, one young artist encourages people to focus on the positive. Yung Mieo, a budding hip-hop/pop phenom, recognizes President Obama in his song “Hero” and pays tribute to the leader’s influence in his life.

“Hero” uses inspirational imagery in its music video, showcasing Obama on the campaign trail, speaking on the country’s future and mobilizing the nation. Through his lyrics, Yung Mieo assures listeners that he will stand up for them and be their voice when they encounter struggles, as he feels Obama has done for him.

Hundreds attend AKA peace rally

ATLANTA -- More than 200 metro Atlanta middle school students attended a peace rally and workshop hosted by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. over the weekend.

The rally was a kickoff for 40 Days of Peace, which begins Monday. 40 Days of Peace is a commitment to kindness and service that encourages young people to follow in the footsteps of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

At Saturday's rally, speakers encouraged attendees to stop bullying and stay out of gangs. Police officers gave a presentation on how to interact with law enforcement.

A concurrent workshop for the parents in attendance focused on implementing strategies to keep children safe and on the right track in life.

FACAA gears up for Georgia Gives Day

ATLANTA -- The Fulton Atlanta Community Action Authority (FACAA) recently announced Georgia Gives Day, to take place on Thursday, December 6.

According to the FACAA, Georgia Gives Day gives people across the state an opportunity to donate to their choice of a nonprofit organization, an effort in total to help change the lives of people in need.

Those participating can donate to a cause nearby by searching locations, or to a cause for a special reason, where organizations are listed by category.

Atlanta residents invited to run for Santa... in a Speedo

ATLANTA -- The City of Atlanta is holding the fourth annual Atlanta Santa Speedo Run on Saturday, December 8.

Residents from all over the city are invited to dash down Peachtree Street dressed in Speedo swimwear attire, beginning at 2:00 p.m. The run begins at Hudson Grille, at 942 Peachtree Street. The finish line is at 15th Street.
