Sept. 23 is National Voter Registration Day

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- On Sept. 23, Americans will celebrate National Voter Registration Day (NVRD) with a massive 50-state effort to register voters before Election Day this November. Fulton County Registration and Elections encourages residents to join others across the nation who will be registering to vote.

The deadline for registering to vote in the Nov. 4 General Election is Monday, Oct. 6. Online voter registration is available, which allows new voters to complete the entire process online at www.fultonelections.com. In Fulton County, residents can register to vote online, at their city hall, the Georgia Department of Driver Services, any Atlanta Fulton County Library Branch, at one of the three registration and elections offices or by mail.

Original 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' at Center for Puppetry Arts

ATLANTA -- The Center for Puppetry Arts will host a screening of the 1990 film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles this weekend.

In the film, four turtles are exposed to toxic ooze and mutate into pizza-eating, pop culture-loving ninjas. Under the guidance of their mentor Splinter, the dudes use their newfound Turtle Power to fight crime in New York City.

To celebrate the Center’s 36th anniversary, all ticket holders get a FREE slice of pizza while supplies last! Thanks to Papa John’s for the totally tubular and awesome donation: cowabunga!

The movie will be Saturday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m., and pizza (and beer and wine for the adults) will be served at 6:15 p.m.

Tickets are free for Center members and $7 for non-members ages 2 and up. They include the movie, dinner and admission to all museum exhibits.

PROBE College Fair coming to Atlanta

PROBE College Fair coming to Atlanta

ATLANTA -- The popular PROBE College Fair will stop in Atlanta next week, giving high school students an opportunity to speak directly to representatives from their favorite colleges and universities.

The fair will be Friday, Sept. 26 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Atlanta Metropolitan State College. It is only open to students in Atlanta Public Schools.

A number of schools in several states, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia and the Carolinas, will be represented. See a complete list of participating colleges.

French princess to perform at Woodruff Arts Center

French princess to perform at Woodruff Arts Center

ATLANTA -- Caroline Haffner, an internationally acclaimed concert pianist, will give a recital at the Woodruff Arts Center next month.

Haffner, born Imperial Princess Caroline Murat in Paris, will perform Chopin and Liszt pieces on Sunday, Oct. 12 at 3 p.m.

"I am delighted to be returning to the United States to play concerts again," Princess Caroline said in a release. "It has been too long, and I am very pleased that the concerts are being supported by my friends in Georgia."

A direct descendent of French Revolution cavalry chief Marechal Joachim Murat, Princess Caroline began playing the piano as a very young child. She is one of the last students of legendary French pianist Alfred Cortot and received a Fulbright Scholarship to study music in the U.S.

Her stage name comes from another ancestor -- Sigmund Haffner, mayor of Salzburg, Austria, and friend of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- Voter Education is an essential non-partisan comprehensive approach to providing the citizens of Fulton County with vital information and data to enhance the voter experience.

ATLANTA -– Here comes the bride…now open wide! To help food lovers say “I do” to the smorgasbord of flavors and fun offered at the 13th annual Taste of Atlanta, the festival is hosting a celebratory kickoff party on Friday, October 24 in Midtown at Tech Square.

The event, themed Culinary Matrimony, will unite unlikely, yet harmonious parings, as local celebrity chefs lift the veil to match-made-in-heaven recipes, libations and more. Keeping with tradition, this Friday night festival kickoff is an all-inclusive block party with exclusive bites from select restaurants, bountiful booze and live music from 80s Synth Pop band Electric Avenue.

All About Developmental Disabilities offers workshops on dating, employment

DECATUR, Ga. -- All About Developmental Disabilities (AADD) will host workshops for families living with developmental disabilities at two locations this fall. Through their Family Support Center, designed to serve individuals and families living with developmental disabilities in metro Atlanta and across Georgia, AADD offers assistance during various life transitions.

Each workshop will help participants learn more about a specific issue, including dating, employment and planning for future needs. Tuesday workshops will be held at AADD’s Family Support Center in Decatur at 125 Clairemont Ave, Suite 300, Decatur, 30030. Thursday workshops will be held at the Marcus Jewish Community Center, 5342 Tilly Mill Rd, Atlanta, 30338.
