FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- Fulton County’s annual celebration of Older Americans Month includes an open invitation for seniors, their families and members of the community to participate in Community Days.

Each facility will host a Community Day as a part of a month of special events designed to celebrate national Older Americans month, which is recognized in May.

The theme of this year’s celebration, “Get into the Act,” focuses on encouraging older adults to take charge of their health, engage in their communities, and have a positive impact on the lives of others. By promoting and engaging in activity, wellness, and inclusivity, more Americans than ever before can “Get into the Act.”

Fulton County to sponsor free paper shredding events

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- Celebrate Earth Day at two free paper shredding events sponsored by Commissioner Joan P. Garner, District 4, and Fulton County Water Resources.

Fulton County residents are encouraged to take advantage of these free events to have personal papers and documents securely shredded. Residents are urged to make sure that the materials they present for shredding do not include plastic, cardboard, or metal. Paper clips and staples do not need to be removed. No businesses are permitted to participate.

The free secure shredding events will take place on Saturday, Apr. 25 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at two locations:

'Midnight in the Garden' author to hold discussion

'Midnight in the Garden' author to hold discussion

ATLANTA -- John Berendt, author of the bestselling book Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, will hold a panel discussion at Atlanta's Margaret Mitchell House next week.

Berendt's nonfiction book, about a Savannah murder case, is still the New York Times' longest-running bestseller, more than two decades after it was published. The upcoming talk will reveal new ways fans can experience the story.

The panel will be Thursday, Mar. 5, at 7 p.m. It is free and open to the public, and will be moderated by Atlanta Magazine columnist Rich Eldredge.

Fulton County to offers lactation and nutrition education classes

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- The journey to motherhood is different for every woman. Usually, the first decision she will make as a mom will be how to feed her child.

Fulton County Cooperative Extension, in partnership with WellCare, will sponsor lactation and nutrition education classes to provide facts about breastfeeding and to give practical tips on how to make breastfeeding work while getting the support every mother needs. Pre-registration is required.

The classes will take place at 10 a.m. in the Cooperative Extension office which is located on the first floor of the Central Atlanta Library, One Margaret Mitchell Square, Suite 109, Atlanta. Classes will be held:

'Wicked' company to hold Witches' Night Off fundraiser

ATLANTA -- Joining Hearts, Inc. and members of the national touring company of Wicked will host “Witches’ Night Off,” an evening of song and dance at Georgia Tech's Ferst Center for the Arts on Monday, Mar. 2.

The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. and also include a very special guest performance by Tony and Grammy winner Jennifer Holliday. The Ferst Center is located at 349 Ferst Drive NW. Net proceeds will benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS (BC/EFA) and Joining Hearts, Inc.

Chick-fil-A to host Daddy-Daughter Date Night

(WXIA) -- Chick-fil-A will bring back its popular Daddy-Daughter Date Night this weekend.

The fifth annual event will be Saturday, Feb. 7 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at participating restaurants.

Daddy-Daughter Date Night encourages fathers and their little girls to spend time together. Every "couple" will receive take-home booklets featuring conversation starters and ideas for future outings.

Attendees will also be treated to tableside service, limousine and trolley rides, and other surprises.

Daddy-Daughter Date Night is free, except for the cost of food. Seating is available every hour; fathers and daughters are encouraged to call their local Chick-fil-A locations in advance to reserve a time.

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- The North Fulton Career Center will host an onsite recruitment in partnership with “dd’s Discounts.” Interviews of qualified candidates will be conducted Feb. 2 - 6 and 9 – 13. The retailer needs to fill positions for retail associates, store protection specialists and area supervisors.

Applications must be completed online at jobs.rossstores.com and recruiters must contact qualified individual applicants before they can report to the North Fulton Career Center for an interview. The North Fulton Career Center is located at 7741 Roswell Road in Sandy Springs. Citizens without access to a computer can use Fulton County Career Center Resource Rooms to file an application.
