'Top Chef' winner Kristen Kish among headliners at Taste of Atlanta

ATLANTA -- Taste of Atlanta makes its gourmet return to Midtown at Tech Square on Oct. 24-26, and it’s serving up more than just phenomenal food.

Local and nationally-acclaimed chefs -- including Kristen Kish, season 10 winner of Bravo’s "Top Chef"; restaurateur Ron Eyester of The Family Dog, Rosebud and Diner; Jay Swift of 4th & Swift; Shaun Whitmer of The Albert; and Terry Koval of Wrecking Bar Brewpub -- will roll up their sleeves and spill the beans behind their culinary master minds.

On Saturday, Oct. 25 and Sunday, Oct. 26, The Chef’s Table and The Kitchen Workshop cooking stages will offer attendees the chance to take epicurean arts into their own hands with direction from none other than the pros! With more than a dozen interactive demos and seminars spread throughout the weekend, attendees of all ages will be whipping up five star recipes like master chefs in no time!

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- Fulton County’s Fire Rescue Department will be holding several events throughout the community in observance of Fire Prevention Week, October 5-11. This year’s theme is “Working Smoke Alarms Save Lives: Test Yours Every Month!”

JOHNS CREEK, Ga. -- Fulton County has added an additional public meeting in conjunction with Johns Creek to allow more public input into the process of planning and preparing its 5-year Consolidated Planning Document to determine the needs of the community in developing viable urban communities.  The plan provides decent housing, a suitable living environment and expanded economic opportunities principally for low and moderate- income persons.

The public meeting will be held Wednesday, Sept. 24 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Community Room of the Shakerag Fire Station located at 10925 Rogers Circle, Johns Creek.

Sept. 23 is National Voter Registration Day

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- On Sept. 23, Americans will celebrate National Voter Registration Day (NVRD) with a massive 50-state effort to register voters before Election Day this November. Fulton County Registration and Elections encourages residents to join others across the nation who will be registering to vote.

The deadline for registering to vote in the Nov. 4 General Election is Monday, Oct. 6. Online voter registration is available, which allows new voters to complete the entire process online at www.fultonelections.com. In Fulton County, residents can register to vote online, at their city hall, the Georgia Department of Driver Services, any Atlanta Fulton County Library Branch, at one of the three registration and elections offices or by mail.

Original 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' at Center for Puppetry Arts

ATLANTA -- The Center for Puppetry Arts will host a screening of the 1990 film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles this weekend.

In the film, four turtles are exposed to toxic ooze and mutate into pizza-eating, pop culture-loving ninjas. Under the guidance of their mentor Splinter, the dudes use their newfound Turtle Power to fight crime in New York City.

To celebrate the Center’s 36th anniversary, all ticket holders get a FREE slice of pizza while supplies last! Thanks to Papa John’s for the totally tubular and awesome donation: cowabunga!

The movie will be Saturday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m., and pizza (and beer and wine for the adults) will be served at 6:15 p.m.

Tickets are free for Center members and $7 for non-members ages 2 and up. They include the movie, dinner and admission to all museum exhibits.

PROBE College Fair coming to Atlanta

PROBE College Fair coming to Atlanta

ATLANTA -- The popular PROBE College Fair will stop in Atlanta next week, giving high school students an opportunity to speak directly to representatives from their favorite colleges and universities.

The fair will be Friday, Sept. 26 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Atlanta Metropolitan State College. It is only open to students in Atlanta Public Schools.

A number of schools in several states, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia and the Carolinas, will be represented. See a complete list of participating colleges.
