Fulton County Health Services to sponsor back to school immunization rush sites

ATLANTA -- The new school year is set to start August 12, 2013 for Fulton County Public Schools and August 7th for Atlanta Public Schools. The Fulton County Department of Health and Wellness will kick-off the Back to School Immunization Rush on Monday, July 29, 2013.  This year's immunization and vision and hearing screenings will be held at three points of dispensing (PODS).

“On July 29, our Nursing Division will focus on giving vaccinations, eye-ear-dental screenings and the required certifications for children to attend school,” says Patrice A. Harris, MD, Director of Fulton County Health Services. 

Accepted Forms of Payment include: Visa and Mastercard, Cash, Medicaid, United HealthCare and CIGNA. For financial assistance, clients must present proof of income. Non-Fulton County residence will be charged the full fee for services.

Skin cancer screening available for Atlanta residents

BROOKHAVEN, Ga. -- The Skin Cancer Foundation is making a stop in Atlanta on Wednesday to offer free skin cancer treatments. 

The Foundation's Road to Healthy Skin Tour and Rite Aid will bring a 38-foot RV to the tour stop, where all residents can get a quick, full-body skin cancer screening inside the RV, divided up into two exam rooms. Also on hand are reading materials with information on how to protect the skin from the sun daily, sunscreen samples and other freebies. 

The RV will visit the Rite Aid at 3964 Peachtree Road NE from 11:00 - 5:00.

ATLANTA -- The Fulton County Department of Health and Wellness will recognize National HIV Testing Day (NHTD) on Friday, June 27 by offering free HIV/STI testing and counseling at three locations.

The NHTD is an annual campaign to encourage all individuals to “Take the Test Take Control” in order to know their HIV status.  Knowing your status helps to keep you, your family and your community safe from sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV.

Free and confidential HIV/STI testing is available at the following locations:

Merrell, Life Time Fitness invite Georgians to free fitness classes

(WXIA) -- Shoe and clothing brand Merrell, along with national fitness center Life Time Fitness are holding upcoming fitness classes around Atlanta, free of charge for anyone who attends. 

All classes, "Outisde Fitness Powered by Merrell," are held at various Life Time Fitness locations. As a spokesperson said, the classes are taught by certified personal trainers, and follow a boot camp format. 

Participating Life Time locations include Alpharetta, north Atlanta, Johns Creek, Peachtree Corners, Sugarloaf and Woodstock Mountain Brook. Classes are held three times per week, and run from June 1 - August 30.

Get skin cancer screenings for free with Kaiser Permanente

ATLANTA -- Kaiser Permanente of Georgia is offering free skin cancer screenings at a couple of locations near Atlanta. 

A spokeswoman for Kaiser Permanente said the screenings are here for those spending more time outdoors this spring, and early detection is important to stay protected. All residents are invited.

Further, sun exposure continues to be the leading cause of skin cancer, making the spring and summer months more risky. Kaiser Permanente reminds everyone who plans to be in the sun to always wear sunscreen to protect their skin.

The screenings are being held Wednesday at the Kaiser Permanente Crescent Medical Center in Tucker and at the Kaiser Permanente Cumberland Medical Center on Cumberland Parkway. 

Screenings will be given on a first come, first serve basis. Hours are 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

MIDTOWN -- Founders of an Atlanta-based blog are holding a launch party on May 4 in Midtown, where residents are invited to learn more about the benefits of healthy living habits.

Pure Health Girls founders support organic products of food, healthcare and skincare, as they say those goods help rid the body of toxins. 

At the launch party, those who attend can take advantage of product demonstrations, giveaways, raffle prizes and networking. There will be music from a live DJ, light bites and drink samples.

The event is set for 6:00 p.m., and will be held at 433 Bishop Street. Tickets can be purchased online at the Pure Health Girls website.
