Titanic exhibition opens at Atlantic Station | News

ATLANTA (WXIA) -- Next week marks 100 years since the RMS Titanic slipped beneath the surface of the Atlantic Ocean.

More than 1,500 people died that night, and the Titanic was not seen again until it was discovered in 1985. Several expeditions to the site have recovered artifacts that are now on display all over the country.

In Atlanta, Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition opened at Atlantic Station on April 6. It features several rooms full of recovered artifacts, including 100 that have never been seen by the public before. There is an intact boarding door for first class passengers, shoes and even personal papers with numbers and signatures still there.

For younger students of the Titanic story, there is an iceberg re-creation you can touch to feel the chill of the ice. There are videos and recreations of the ship where it rests on the ocean floor.

"It's a really great experience very historical and very informative," said visitor Karen Thomas from Carrolton. "I want my son to have information about the history part of it, and the tragedy part of it."
