ATLANTA -- The original dummer for popular rock band the Atlanta Rhythm Section has died. 

Robert Nix died on Sunday morning at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.

In addition to being an original member of the Atlanta Rhythm Section, Nix toured and played with famous artists like Roy Orbison and Lynyrd Skynyrd. He is also in both the Georgia and Florida Music Halls of Fame.

Nix was funeralized on Thursday at the Batesville Presbyterian Church in Batesville, Mississippi. 

He is survived by his wife, daughters, son and a host of extended family members. He was 67.
