Parking Bill of Rights goes to Atlanta City Council | News

ATLANTA -- You spoke out. We listened. Now, Atlanta City Council is paying attention too!

11Alive's Parking Bill of Rights has been noticed.

"I think what 11Alive has done is certainly exemplary effort," said Atlanta City Council President Ceasar Mitchell. 

On Monday, Councilmember Kwanza Hall of District 2 talked in an open council meeting to members about the more than 676 petitions which you filled out about PARKatlanta on 11Alive's website.

"There's well over 600 signed petitions that have come in about this in the last few days. I think they'll keep coming in, so it's probably wise that we be proactive and step forward to address the concerns that are out there," Hall said.

Councilmember Michael Julian Bond, Post 1 at Large, told members he believes the Parking Bill of Rights needs to be reviewed by the Department of Transportation and agreed citizen concerns can not be ignored. Bond called the PARKAtlanta contract with the city "a pig dressed up with lipstick."

"It's a very generous analogy in terms of putting lipstick on a pig,"Mitchell said. "I was thinking more of a pig roast, but anyway I think this is just an indication, clearly, a call to take some deeper action."
