Code enforcement demolishes Allison Court vacant apartment
News

ATLANTA, Ga. -- Atlanta Police Department Code Enforcement demolished an abandoned apartment complex on the 2000 block of Allison Court in southwest Atlanta.

Residents and city leaders participated in the demolition saying the building was a "potential public health hazard, haven for crime and a detriment to the community's quality of life."

According to police, the building had been left vacant since 2007. It became a illegal dumping ground and was condemned by Code Enforcement in 2010.

"When communities are allowed to deteriorate, crime is allowed to breed," said Atlanta Police Chief George N. Turner.

"No one knows that better than the police, and those directly affected in the community. So we want to bring everything we have to bear, and work cooperatively with other City agencies and the Mayor and City Council, to tackle these blighted properties."
