Police search for would-be abductor | News

ATLANTA -- Atlanta police followed up a number of potential leads throughout the weekend in their search for a man who attempted to kidnap a 7-year-old girl.

Family friends believe they saw the suspect's car at a convenience store on the corner of Ponce de Leon and Boulevard Sunday afternoon.  Officers and detectives met with family members and plan to look at store surveillance video to see if the driver matches a detailed suspect sketch they have.

The attempted abduction happened on Parkway Drive Wednesday night.

"I thought he was going to take me and spend the rest of my life with him," said the 7-year-old victim.

With their mother's permission, the sisters told 11Alive's Jerry Carnes how they were walking home at 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday when a black pickup truck blocked their path.

According to the girl's mother, who did not want to be identified, the children told her that "he [the suspect] whipped his car over, got out of the truck and started pulling my youngest daughter's arm. And the other ones started to pull her back in reverse. That's when he drove off."

Police described that man to be about 6'1' tall and 200lbs. They said the man was wearing a blue shirt, baggy shorts and red All-Star sneakers. 

"It was hard because he was stronger than us," said the 12-year-old who pulled her sister to safety. "At the same time it was terrifying because I thought I would never get her loose."

The truck was described as a black pickup with silver rims and an orange and red decal on the back window. 

Police conducted traffic stops on Parkway Drive on Friday so they could show a sketch of the suspect to people in the area.
