Action Ministries to hold races in 5 cities tomorrow
News

ATLANTA -- Olympic paddler Tim Hornsby will serve as grand marshal of the first-ever "Action Dash," a Labor Day race held simultaneously in five metro Atlanta cities to support Action Ministries.

The 5K family fun run & walk will take place in Atlanta, Athens, Gainesville, Rome and Augusta at the same time, with the same goal of giving participants a chance to help other people. Registration is available on-site on race day. The Atlanta race will take place at Piedmont Park.

Action Ministries and its programs connect people with the hunger, housing and education solutions they need to move out of poverty and towards independence.

The Atlanta-based nonprofit is encouraging runners and walkers to dress as their favorite action hero for the event. There will be prizes for times, costumes and even pet costumes.

With the help of volunteers and donations, Action Ministries served more than 117,000 meals to children in need over the summer through the new Smart Lunch, Smart Kid child nutrition program. The staff at 11Alive helped make, pack and distribute lunches in June.
