Participants will walk all the way to Piedmont Park, where their fundraiser ends Sunday.

The walk raises money for breast cancer research. It's one of more than a dozen Komen 3-day breast cancer walks across the country.

Meanwhile, Georgia is working on improving breast cancer services for the state's uninsured population.

The Georgia Department of Community Health has awarded a total of $1.1 million to 16 community organizations through the Georgia Access, Care, Treatment and Services Breast Cancer Grant Program.

The grant program is funded through the sale and renewal of the breast cancer license tag. It aims to expand breast cancer education, screening, access and outreach and to treat those without health insurance.

The grant amounts range from $35,000 to $50,000 for screening projects and up to $200,000 for treatment projects.

The Georgia Center for Oncology Research and Education Inc. administers the grant program.
