Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Kammeon Holsey led the way with 18 points, as the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets downed the Tulane Green Wave, 79-61, in a non- conference battle in the first game at the new McCamish Pavilion.
For the Yellow Jackets (1-0), Marcus Georges-Hunt added 14 points, Chris Bolden scored 12 and Daniel Miller posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, while dishing out six assists and blocking three shots.
Josh Davis led all scorers with 27 points for the Green Wave (0-1), while Ricky Tarrant chipped in 18.
Georgia Tech shot a healthy 50 percent from the field in the first half, knocking down 15-of-30. Tulane shot 40 percent from the floor, but was outrebounded 24-12, as the Yellow Jackets went into intermission with a 39-30 advantage.
In the second half, Georgia Tech continued its strong shooting, making 63.0 percent of its field goals. Tulane could not keep pace, making only 44.8 percent of its shots from the floor, including just 1-of-5 from three-point range. After seeing their lead cut to just six, 46-40, early in the second half the Yellow Jackets used a 14-3 run to push their advantage to double figures. Leading by as many as 21, the Yellow Jackets cruised to the easy victory.
Georgia Tech dominated Tulane on the glass, outrebounding the visitors 47-23. The Yellow Jackets reserves outscored their counterparts by a margin of 36-5.
The new arena for Georgia Tech was built on the site of the old Alexander- Memorial Coliseum.
