Late Monday afternoon, Atlanta Police responded to a reported shooting at 699 Ponce De Leon Avenue. When they arrived, officers said they found 20-year-old Lee Lowery III, who had been shot one time. Lowery was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in extremely critical condition. He later died as a result of his injuries.
Tuesday morning, investigators released surveillance video of the shooting.
In the video, Lowery can be seen standing next to the elevators, holding a package.
Another man approaches him from behind and grabs the package.
Police did not release the portion where they say the second man then shot Lowery.
"Our preliminary investigation revealed that the incident appears to be a robbery," said Lt. Paul Guerrucci.
Lowery lived a few miles away and was just visiting the Ford Factory Lofts Apartments.
Police are asking anyone who knows why Lowery was there or what was in his package to contact them.
They also want to hear from anyone who may be able to identify the shooter.
Anyone who has any information on the shooting is asked to call Atlanta PD Homicide investigators at 404-546-4235, or Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-8477.
