Midtown Alliance offers June "Try Transit" program

ATLANTA - When you finally get tired of fighting the Atlanta traffic and pulling your hair out over where to park, Midtown Alliance in offering you a chance to "Try Transit".

The program offers one round-trip passage for your commute into Midtown for work.

"I like MARTA, it gets me into Midtown easily," said commuter Kathy Simcoe. "You can do other things on the train that you can't do while you're driving. You can do e-mail, I can text. I can catch up with work, I can read."

A new position in Midtown led Simcoe to give the train a try again. Her job can at times require her to have a car close at hand, Kevin Green with the Midtown Alliance says checking out your transit options, even just for occasional use, is a start.

"Every bit helps," said Kevin Green, Midtown Alliance President and CEO. "Believe it or not, almost every single office building and residential tower is within a six minute walk of rail transit, not to mention a lot of bus options. Still there's a lot of workers who haven't tried transit, so for the month of June we're gonna give them a nudge if you will."

The program covers more than just MARTA. It also works for solo-commuters using the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority Xpress, Gwinnett County Transit or Cobb Community Transit.

If you've never used any service before, Midtown Alliance can help you chart your route.

For Simcoe, who just picked up her new routine about a month ago, says it is an option worth exploring.

"When I'm stuck in traffic, and I'm watching the train go by -- because I come down 400 -- I'm really wishing I was on the train," she said.
