Neighbors demand #SaferMidtown

ATLANTA -- A mother held at gunpoint in front of her children. Forty-three cars broken into overnight. A family's SUV left on cinder blocks. These are the crimes Midtown neighbors talking about using the hashtag #SaferMidtown.

Neighbors called on Mayor Kasim Reed, City Councilman Kwanza Hall, and Atlanta Police Chief George Turner to take action to stem the rising tide of gun crime in the busy heart of Midtown.

"I don't blame police. Crime is on the rise. Their plate is full. Now they need our help to sort this situation out," Martin Kemp told 11Alive News.

The people behind #SaferMidtown have set up a meeting this Wednesday night to get answers and ideas from police and city leaders.
