Former Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin Launches Political Blog

Atlanta, GA-  (submitted by SC Frankilin)  Former Atlanta Shirley Franklin will join her former communications director Beverly Isom and Cabral Franklin, political advisor and researcher as host of the latest Georgia political blogs, “Blogging While Blue”.

“As mayor I heard from scores of residents and leaders of every political perspective on nearly every current issues. Many engaged me in regular debate on their favorite issues in community meetings, emails and blogging.  By joining Beverly and Cabral, we hope to encourage those from baby boomers to gen xers to engage with us in informed debates and discussions,” says Franklin.

One of the unique features of the blog will be frequent public opinion polls from around the region on relevant issues from immigration to education. The sophistication and use of polls has increased exponentially over the last two centuries. What was once a novelty in the political process is now a necessity. Cabral Franklin says, “Polling is an integral part of every major political campaign and most informed elected officials use polls to weigh policy options while in office. This is an opportunity to share constituent’s opinions and concerns with public officials in real time as they seek to govern and lead.”

The blog is also designed to invite progressive and unfamiliar voices from activist and advocates to journalists and other bloggers that add a substantive perspective to current issues. “The mainstream media has a cadre of resources but what is too often missing form a great majority of the political coverage, are the diverse voices and views of so many others in the region, we hope to attract and engage them in a public dialogue on this site”, said Beverly Isom.
