Chef Asha Gomez announces Saturday cooking classes at Cardamom Hill

ATLANTA – After launching a series of cooking classes this spring and enjoying a terrific response from eager-to-learn students, Chef Asha Gomez has answered requests for additional opportunities to explore the flavors of Kerala cuisine with a second series focused exclusively on vegetarian dishes. Participants will step inside the kitchen at Cardamom Hill every Saturday morning in August for a 2.5-hour journey through the preparation of four Southeast Indian dishes led by Chef Gomez herself.

Each class begins with a cup of chai and ends with the chance to sample each of the dishes participants have learned to prepare. Chef Gomez’s vegetarian classes will feature the following examples of classic Kerala cuisine:

  • Tamarind Rice:                  Flavored with fresh tamarind, turmeric and curry leaves
  • Stuffed Eggplant:              Eggplant in a spicy sweet tomato broth
  • Avial:                                   Potatoes, carrots, green beans & green plantains in a coconut sauce
  • Oolan:                                  Vegetables and black-eyed peas in coconut milk sauce

“I love sharing the traditional dishes I enjoyed growing up with diners at the restaurant, and I am even more thrilled that Atlantans are so interested in learning about the ingredients and methods that go into preparing each dish,” says Chef Gomez. “I am particularly excited about inviting food lovers into my kitchen to learn more about the vegetarian cuisine of Kerala, because the region’s position along ancient trade routes has allowed it to develop an incredible variety of produce that really shines in the dishes I have chosen to highlight.”

Classes are scheduled for August 4, 11, 18, and 25 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each day. Cost is $85/person. Space is limited and reservations can be made by emailing cardamomhill@gmail.com or calling 404.577.8686 with your name, party size, and preferred date.

Parking is available in the main lot as well as secured covered parking adjacent to the center.
