ATLANTA -- This week, Dinners on a Dime features the best in Dim sum. Every Tuesday Where U Live chooses four favorite eats in your area for you to take your family and friends for a fabulous meal for a price that’s economically feasible in today’s economy.

Dim sum is a term used to describe small portions of Chinese food served in small steamer baskets or on small plates, basically Chinese tapas. Traditional dim sum includes various types of steamed foods, such as: dumplings, rice noodle rolls, vegetables, roasted meats and soups. Dim sum can be cooked by steaming and frying. Most meals are small and served with two or three pieces.

Perhaps Atlanta’s most well known dim sum restaurant, AJA, serves up “yummy, delightful and fresh” dim sum dishes, daily. According to some, the best dish they serve is the shrimp dumpling.

Spice Route Supper Club Creator and Chef Asha Gomez is excited to announce she has signed the lease for her first restaurant location in the former My Girlfriend’s Kitchen space on Northside Drive.  Cardamom Hill is scheduled to open mid-September of this year.

Great Persian Cuisine at Sufi's

Great Persian Cuisine at Sufi's

On Friday, June 24, I ventured out to a fabulous Persian restaurant in Atlanta called Sufi. My friend, Patricia Tinsley, said I would love it and that I did! I was greeted by a nice gentlemen by the name of Mohsen Roozi, who owns the establishment. He’s from Iran. I quickly asked him what did “Sufi” mean? He said, “Purity and wisdom” and explained that he came up with the name because of a popular restaurant back home in his country.

Roozi escorted us to our table and sat down for a chat. He has only been open for seven months, but the place had a nice crowd forming while we sat and talked. He wanted to open a place for people to relax and enjoy each other. The restaurant is also BYOB, and I thought that had a nice twist to it.
