LOCAL PROFILE: Georgia's Country Music Scene

ATLANTA – According to the Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau, “country music is a perennial Southern favorite in Atlanta and it won’t disappoint”. The music, which has its roots in the south, is known as a blend of, both, traditional and popular music. The country music genre gained widespread popularity around the mid-1900’s as music known as “hillbilly” or old-time music began to decline. Hillbilly music was a genre of music native to the people of the Ozarks. The music was usually played on acoustic instrument like a guitar or a banjo.

Over the years, old-time music changed however most of the lyrical content and instrumentation stayed the same. As it evolved, the arrangement of instruments grew to include the electronic keyboard, drums, the bass, fiddle and the harmonica.

Buckhead Pub Brings Back a Beloved Shot and Rolls Out New Summer Sips and Snacks

Beginning this month, Fadó Irish Pub & Restaurant is rolling out a summer drink menu that features new and traditional beer-based cocktails as well as Guinness Mixers.   Fadó is also bringing back its infamous Pickleback – a shot of Jameson Irish Whiskey followed by a shot of fresh pickle brine – and will celebrate by hosting a Pickleback Tweet-Up on June 8.

“People often mistakenly believe Guinness must be heavy, warm and high in calories because of its dark color,” says John Piccirillo, the director of marketing and development for Fadó.  “When in fact, it’s actually served cold, contains less alcohol and has fewer calories and carbohydrates than most brands.  It is hard to mess with a good thing, but we wanted to encourage guests who don’t normally order a Guinness to give it a go.  Guinness mixers have been viewed by many as their personal gateway to the real thing,” he adds.
