Message from GDOT: Turn off your sprinklers!

ATLANTA -- It's going to be cold in the days leading up to Thanksgiving, with temperatures expected to hover around 27 in the mornings and climb no higher than 45 during the day.

FORECAST | Thanksgiving week temperatures

The Georgia Department of Transportation is asking homeowners to turn off sprinkler systems that are set to automatically run overnight.

"Every winter, we have icing issues due to automatically-timed sprinkler systems that are left on overnight in freezing temperatures," GDOT engineer Rachel Brown said in a statement. "They can create a very hazardous condition for motorists the next morning."

The National Weather Service has issued a Freeze Warning in effect through Thursday morning at 10 a.m., for the following counties: Dade, Walker, Catoosa, Whitfield, Gordon, Floyd, Bartow, Cherokee, Forsyth, Hall, Banks, Jackson, Madison, Polk, Pauling, Cobb, North Fulton, Gwinnett, Barrow, Clarke, Oconee, Oglethorpe, Wilkes, Haralson, Carroll, Douglass, South Fulton, DeKalb, Rockdale, Walton, Newton, Morgan, Greene, Heard, Coweta, Fayette, Clayton and Henry.

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. -- The National Weather Service says metro Atlanta is in for a wet unofficial end to summer 2013.

Most of the state is under a Hazardous Weather Outlook alert Monday morning as rain and storms sweep through Georgia.

One county -- Haralson, on the Georgia-Alabama border -- is under a flash flood warning until noon Monday.

Other portions of the metro experienced heavy rains, swollen creeks, downed trees and, in a few cases, power outages.
