ATLANTA -- Every summer, many children who depend on free and reduced-price lunches during the school year have trouble getting the nutritious meals they need.

On Wednesday, 11Alive employees teamed up with representatives from Action Ministries to make 400 bagged lunches for local children in need.

Action Ministries'"Smart Lunch, Smart Kid" program aims to provide food for 100,000 kids in Athens, Atlanta, Augusta, Fayetteville, Gainesville, Jackson, Rome and Tucker this summer, according to John R. Moeller, Jr., the organization's president and CEO.

11Alive reporter Jennifer Leslie was instrumental in getting the station involved in the campaign. Several employees helped fill lunch bags with sandwiches, chips, two types of fruit and bottled water.
