New video connects three men to random beating, robbery in midtown

ATLANTA -- New video shows a very clear image of men who police believe are connected to a midtown Atlanta beating on Labor Day.

The weekend was a non-stop party in Atlanta with hundreds of thousands of people in town for Dragon Con and several other events.

Kris Yi was in town for a bachelor party.

But in the early morning hours, he got lost walking alone at 6th and Juniper streets where there was no one around except for the robbing crew that jumped him.

“I got lost and somebody came up from behind and sucker punched me,” he said. “And while I was on the ground, they pretty much beat me and took my stuff.”

Atlanta police said the attack was random and unusual for the area.

But then they caught a break when the suspects walked into a nearby CVS store to try and use the victim’s credit cards.

All three of their faces were captured by the surveillance camera.

“That’s why we’re reaching out to the public to see if there were any witnesses or anything like that that might have seen this incident,” Detective Benjamin King said. “This incident occurred pretty early in the morning.”

Yi said he had been drinking during the party and doesn’t remember much about the attack – other than feeling lucky later that it didn’t turn out worse.

“By the time I collected my stuff … it was a pretty scary moment,” he said. “I consider myself pretty lucky I walked away with cuts and bruises. Luckily they didn’t have a knife or, you know, or a gun or anything.”
